Nov 20, Colombo: Retired Chief of Defence Staff General Sarath Fonseka says that he will now sacrifice his life for the safeguard of country's democracy.
Sending a special letter to war heroes and their family members General Fonseka said that he would always back the war heroes as they are the sole owners of the victory over the terrorism.
"I will be by your side like a shadow," he said.
According to General Fonseka the real leaders of this historical victory over thirty years long war were the brave soldiers.
"It was a great graveness for the soldiers and we should protect it," he stressed.
According to the General Fonseka several persons are attempting to defame the war heroes, but it should be defeated, he said.
Politicization of the forces could not be allowed as "we are the real heroes," retired Chief of Defence Staff pointed out.
He further said that he was not even able to speak to the war heroes who supported him for the historical victory over LTTE, as he was removed from the post of Army Commander soon after defeating the war.
General Sarath Fonseka said that although his security was reduced to 25 persons he will commit himself to protect democratic freedoms which we are rapidly losing as well as to work to restore human rights, media freedom, social justice, ethnic unity, and peaceful coexistence.
He finally reminded to the brave soldiers that this is our heritage.
